Scalp micropigmentation is an excellent technique to camouflage scars from hair transplant surgery and head trauma. As our understanding of SMP has evolved, so have the incredible results we can achieve to conceal all kinds of head scars. Today, the most common requests are to conceal FUT and FUE hair transplant scars, neurosurgery scars, burns, birthmarks and accident scars.
Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) or ‘strip’ is the traditional hair transplant method. The surgery results in a linear scar, usually at the back of the head, although sometimes at the side behind the ears.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a more modern and less invasive technique. FUE creates ‘dot’ scars at the back of the head in the donor area. In both cases, as the hair continues to thin after surgery, these scars can become increasingly difficult to hide.
Scalp micropigmentation uses hundreds of tiny pigment deposits to blend scar tissue with the surrounding hair and skin, making the scars less visible. Most of our clients choose to shave their heads at this stage, although this is not strictly necessary in all cases, so if you wish to keep your hair at a longer length, you may be able to do so.
Scar tissue is challenging and unpredictable to work on. Sometimes the colour stays, whereas other clients with similar skin types may experience poor pigment retention after treatment.
Unfortunately, poorly trained practitioners can make the problem worse by using pigments that are too dark or cause significant pigment migration by going too deep, leaving the client in a worse position than when they started.
We are committed to service and standards. We use only industry-leading machines, the best needles and pigments and have received the best education. We offer highly advanced knowledge of how colour behaves in the skin, advanced paramedical tattooing techniques, and the more delicate complexities of head scar camouflage.
Our results are better than most clinics, but we also understand why our results are better and how to correct a treatment if the outcome isn’t immediately perfect. This depth of knowledge is crucial for effective long term scar camouflage.
