In depth progressive training teaching you how to offer SMP safely and effectively, working on a variety of models so you leave feeling confident, most importantly we include ongoing support and mentoring long term
Many providers offer 1-day courses and call it fully qualified. Our course is fully comprehensive and in-person — designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to practice professionally.
Our course certifies you as a Scalp Micropigmentation Practitioner and enables you to obtain insurance. Also includes an online Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology certification.
You complete atleast 2 model treatment sessions under our guidance before certification is awarded. Most other trainers only require one session — we want you competent and confident at every stage.
Your own equipment kit is provided for you to unbox, learn how to use, and take away with you upon completion of the training. This includes an SMP machine, power supply, needles, pigments, and other useful consumables. All of this is the same used by Alex James Clinic and is extremely high quality. You will also be advised on where it is best to purchase your products in the future.
We photograph and video you working during your practical days — in your own branded clothing if possible — to provide content for your website and social media from day one.

Morning
Theory session covering the key aspects of the treatment, health & safety, types of treatments you can offer, pigments, and needle types.
Afternoon
Practical exercises to learn the technique, machine setup, how to map hairlines, and completing a full Micropads practice head.
Morning
Continued practice to hone your new skills and build confidence ahead of working on real skin.
Afternoon
Live models attend. You work through your model's session under full guidance.
The Return Day
You complete your model's second session. This is where you assess your healed work, receive detailed feedback on your first session, and learn the layering process of SMP.

Real SMP takes multiple sessions. Training you on the full process — including assessing healed work — is what separates a comprehensive course from a one-day certificate.

Alex James Smith is a fully qualified SMP specialist who has been practising since 2020. As someone who has undergone SMP himself, Alex brings a genuine personal perspective to training — understanding both the technical craft and the client experience from first-hand knowledge. Based in Rossendale with his wife and two dogs.
Elly brings a 20 year background in Hairdressing and Barbering to her role as SMP practitioner and trainer, making her exceptionally skilled. She Trained with Alex in 2024 and now works from our Clinic and her other clinic in Bowness.
