Maintaining Scalp Micropigmentation: Essential Tips for Lasting Results
Tips & tricks to maintain your SMP results for as long as possible

How to maintain your Scalp Micropigmentation post-treatment
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is an innovative solution for hair loss that involves the application of detailed, natural-looking pigments to the scalp. For those in Manchester who have undergone this treatment, maintaining the results is crucial to ensure longevity and continued aesthetic appeal. The first few days post-treatment are particularly important. It is advised to avoid washing your scalp or engaging in activities that cause excessive sweating, such as heavy exercise or sauna visits. Keeping the scalp dry and clean helps the pigments to settle properly and reduces the risk of infection or irritation.
Maintaining your Scalp Micropigmentation in the short-term
After the initial healing phase, typically around a week, you can resume a more regular scalp care routine. However, it’s important to use mild, sulfate-free shampoos and to avoid harsh scrubbing. Gentle cleansing helps maintain the integrity of the pigments. Additionally, moisturising your scalp regularly can prevent dryness and flaking, which could potentially affect the appearance of your SMP. In Manchester, where weather conditions can vary, it’s also crucial to protect your scalp from prolonged sun exposure. Wearing hats or using sunscreen designed for the scalp can prevent the pigments from fading prematurely due to UV radiation.

Maintaining your Scalp Micropigmentation in the long-term
Long-term care for scalp micropigmentation involves periodic touch-ups, which can be discussed with your SMP practitioner in Manchester. Depending on your skin type and lifestyle, you might need a touch-up every 2-5 years to maintain the vibrancy and detail of the pigmentation. Adhering to these maintenance tips ensures that your scalp micropigmentation remains as fresh and realistic as possible, providing a lasting solution to hair loss and a significant boost in confidence.

CONTINUOUS CARE INSTRUCTIONS AFTER THE LAST SESSION:
The healing process after the last session is usually 1-4 weeks (we all heal at different rates) don’t worry if the treated area looks too dark or too light, this is normal as it goes through stages of healing. If it is your first session, please remember this treatment is only about 40% complete, don’t be concerned if you can still see a difference between the treated area and your own remaining hair, the following sessions will build on the density to completion.
Please follow these instructions carefully since it will help you get the best possible result out of your scalp micropigmentation treatment. We try to ensure that all of our clients have realistic expectations of what their final results will be. Treatments are all done by hand, slight imperfections will always be present if the SMP results are studied with magnifying mirrors or extreme close up photos. These slight irregularities will not be visible to the average person.
